RM500m makeover for Kuala Terengganu
KUALA TERENGGANU: Declared a Waterfront City last year, Kuala Terengganu has been allocated RM500mil for a major facelift.
Over the next three years, the money would be spent on various projects such as building an exclusive hotel and commercial parks to meet a shortage of business premises here.
Giving details yesterday, Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said said the city’s growth would be centred at a 5.2ha site in Jalan Hiliran and Ladang Tok Pelam.
Several high-rise condominiums would be built to meet housing needs of civil servants in the state, he said.
“Our vision is to see Kuala Terengganu as a modern administrative and commercial capital in the next four years,” he told reporters after opening the annual meeting of the Association of State Assemblymen’s Wives.
“The state secretary will look for appropriate sites that could be developed as commercial parks,” he added.
Some quarters have said that Kuala Terengganu’s status as a Waterfront City is not fully realised as it lacked commercial infrastructure.
Ahmad said the makeover, which includes improving the city’s transport system, could also attract more investors.
